When our founder, Imane Belle, set out to create her very own hair loss oil after her experience with hair loss, she knew one thing for certain: her mission was to create a product where every ingredient had been verified by science.

Imane started losing her hair at a young age and immediately turned to science to figure out what was going on up there. She pored over tons of scientific studies to find out what causes hair loss and what the key ingredients are to treat and fight hair loss.

And, voila! The beauty in all (bia) Super Roots Hair Growth Elixir was born!

We’d love to take a moment to take you through all the science stuff behind the ingredients we’ve chosen to include in our hair loss oil, so keep reading for some real nerd talk. 🤓

Rosemary essential oil vs. Minoxidil 

There are two main medical hair loss treatments available on the market today: Minoxidil and Propecia. Minoxidil, also known as Rogaine, works to shorten the resting phase of our hair growth cycle and boost the growth phase. There is also some evidence that this drug can increase hair thickness too.

However, Minoxidil is packed full of harsh ingredients and can come with some nasty side effects like scalp acne, a burning sensation on the scalp, facial hair growth, and even facial swelling. Not fun, right?

This is where rosemary essential oil comes in. This powerful natural ingredient, one of the key ingredients in our hair loss oil, has been scientifically proven to be just as effective as Minoxidil.

In a 2015 study that lasted six months, one group of people tested Minoxidil, and the other group used rosemary oil. Both groups showed a significant increase in hair count, which means that rosemary oil is just as effective as Minoxidil in stimulating new hair growth.

Green tea 

Another key ingredient in our hair oil for growth is green tea. This ingredient contains natural antioxidants called catechins and polyphenols that scientific studies have found can block a hair loss-causing hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

A 2005 study on mice with hair loss found that 33% of the mice who received a solution containing the natural antioxidants found in green tea showed a massive hair regrowth in just six months.

Scientists also conducted a test tube experiment where it was proven that polyphenols reduced the enzyme in our bodies that produce DHT.

Pumpkin seed oil 

Yet another all-natural ingredient in our hair loss oil is pumpkin seed oil (PSO) which has been scientifically proven to increase hair growth.

In a 2014 study, PSO was given to 76 men who were experiencing hair loss for 24 weeks. The men who received PSO saw greater improvements in hair growth versus the second group of men who received a placebo.

Peppermint essential oil 

Peppermint oil has several health benefits and can be used in many ways to improve your overall well-being. Diffusing peppermint essential oil, for example, can boost focus, creativity, and energy.

When it comes to our hair growth oil, we’ve decided to include peppermint essential oil (PEO) as a scientific study performed on mice showed that it increases hair thickness, the number of follicles, and follicle depth.

The mice were divided into four groups, and each group was treated with a topical application of either saline, jojoba oil, 3% Minoxidil or PEO. The PEO group saw the best results.

Thyme, lavender, and cedarwood 

Lastly, we’ve included the ultimate hair growth trifecta in our hair growth oil: thyme, lavender, and cedarwood essential oils.

In a scientific study, 86 people were randomised into two groups. One group massaged these three essential oils – as well as rosemary essential oil – in a mixture of carrier oils into their scalps daily. The second group used a carrier oil and massaged their scalps with the mixture.

At the end of the trial, the majority of the people in the first group saw a significant improvement in their hair count and the condition of their hair.
